Jackson Mitchell was a Risk Management Intern at Schnuck Markets, Inc. in the summer of 2024.

How did you get your internship?

I found the internship via a LinkedIn post. I had two rounds of virtual interviews after applying.

What sort of things did you do during your internship?

I worked on an internal actuarial analysis for workers’ compensation and general liability claims, assisted in the contractual risk transfer process, i.e. helped renew their complex insurance program, and worked on a presentation over AI implementation into the company and presented it to the executive level of the company.

How did you benefit from the internship?

I learned a lot about insurance programs, things like the difference between a deductible and a retention limit, TIV and how it is involved in premium pricing, and how claims are handled in a large company. I also gained other benefits, like networking at RIMS events and through coworkers.
