General Math Internships
- The #HireTruman website maintained by the Truman Career Center has searchable listings of internships.
- American Mathematical Society list of internships
- The FLITE program is a partnership with the Boeing Company in which several first year Truman students are selected for internships. For the summer of 2023, applications are due February 14th. Note: the program is aimed at “business-related” majors, and mathematics is considered such a major.
- Hollister, here in Kirksville is often looking for interns with background in math / statistics.
Actuarial Internships
- The math department typically hosts several actuarial information sessions led by employers in the region. The connections made during these informal sessions often pave the way to formal interviews for internships. Contact Dr. Smith and ask him to add your name to his e-mail list to get notifications for these events and other opportunities for actuarial students.
- BeAnActuary.com – lots of information on the field of actuarial science, including finding internships
- The Actuarial Career Fair at Central Missouri University has been a good source of internships for Truman students. The 2024 fair will take place on September 17th.
Research Experiences
- Math REU Programs List – maintained by Steve Butler at Iowa State
- Mathprograms.org – This is sort of like a CommonApp for summers research experiences. It has both a listing of programs as well as a portal allowing you to easily send materials to multiple programs.
- TruScholars – support for up to 25 Truman students conducting research in any discipline.

Teaching Related
- The Joseph Baldwin Academy is a three-week residential program for middle school students. Truman students serve as professional staff and preceptors for the courses. Contact the instructor for any classes you might have an interest as preceptor.
- The SEE Program at Truman hires counselors / tutors.
- Upward Bound hires math instructors for summer courses.
