Math was always the subject and field I enjoyed most-the analytics of it always made the most sense to me in school. I also always loved that it wasn’t about memorization and reading notes, but actual logic and self led studying.

Current Position:

I am a senior demand planner for Walgreens in the seasonal department. This role falls within inventory management and supply chain at the company. I am responsible for forecasting and ordering all of the seasonal merchandising for all Walgreens locations. I spent my first five and a half years after college in a retail store environment but was eager to be in a corporate setting where I could use my skill set differently. I have been at Walgreens for two years and this is my second role with the company.

How I use math in my job:

While I don’t use pure mathematics, my job is all about logic and analytics. I use those skills daily to determine optimal inventory across a corporation. I also use SQL on a daily basis to pull data from our many systems.

Advice to Truman students getting ready to hit the job market:

Think outside the box, there are many fields out there that require the daily use of logic, which is a skill Truman mathematics helps students improve upon during their time at Truman. Supply chain is something most companies have in some capacity and it is a place where mathematics skills are in high demand!
